This is a non-for-profit platform geared at bringing the happenings and needs of Okpatu community to all sons, daughters and well-wishers without geographical limitations.

Our Vision

To make Okpatu a choice town in Enugu State

Our Mission

The mission of okpatu-assemble.org.ng is to be the central information platform for Okpatu town and community, connecting sons , daughters and well-wishers of the town to all developmental activities going on in the town.

History

Okpatu is the fifth of seven sons (which metamorphosed into towns) in Ojebe-Ogene Clan. The town is currently divided into two autonomous communities for administrative and political purposes, named Okpatu and Ibite-Okpatu autonomous Communities. This website is for both communities and both will be referred to here as Okpatu-ukwuedem. According to a history shared by our forebearers, Ojebe (mother) who was married to Ogene (father) bore seven sons namely: Ebe, Abor, Ukana, Awhum, Okpatu, Umulumgbe and Ukehe.

Community Development

Culture & Tradition

Okpatu-ukwuedem is very rich in culture and tradition ranging from marriage, masquerade, food, lifestyle, occupation.
Our rich cultural heritage is seen clearly in the burial and funeral rites, mode of dressing, language, marriage ceremonies, native monthly feasts, title initiations, age grade (Ogba) etc.
A funeral rite of a deceased lasts for five days. The third day which must be either ‘Afor or Eke’ (a market day) is the Ikwu – na –Ibe’ (the day for relations and well-wishers). This day is the climax of the funeral rites. Just like in most Igbo culture, relations and well-wishers visit the deceased family with wine, money and live animals like Goat, Ram, Cow, Horse, Pig.
